Waterproof but not Oil Proof
When I wash my face at night, that mascara doesn’t move. I’d pull out my eyelashes before I’d pull off the actual mascara from my eyelashes. Even if I scrubbed, it wouldn’t come off.
I was baptized years ago, and sometimes, I’m like, Dear God…I feel waterproof. Like I’m too messy for even God’s baptism water. Like my sins and mess are so strong and even if I scrubbed, they wouldn’t come off.
To take off waterproof mascara, I use oil. I just put a little on my fingers, gently rub my eyelashes in between my fingers and it easily slides off. What was once un-budge-able, is now seamlessly washed clean.
There’s a story about David in the Bible in 1 Samuel 16. God told a prophet to go to Jesse’s house (which is David’s dad) and go pour anointing oil on the next king.
As Jesse brought his sons in, one by one, Samuel (the prophet) responded with “this man isn’t God’s choice”. One after the other, no oil poured out.
When it got to the end of the line, Samuel looked at Jesse and said “you got any other sons?” Jesse said, “There’s the youngest. He is tending sheep”. Samuel responded, “Send for him. We will not sit down until he arrives”.
1 Samuel 16:12
“So he sent for him and had him brought in. He was glowing with health and had a fine appearance and handsome features.
Then the Lord said, “Rise and anoint him; this is the one.”
13 So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and from that day on the Spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon David…”
The LORD said “rise and anoint him, this is the one”.
They literally didn’t_even_think to call him inside to the “could-be-king” line up with his brothers. He wasn’t even a thought. And yet, the oil couldn’t pour on who it was not meant for. It was meant for the king. And that was David. No one else could take his oil. Not even family. It was meant for David and David alone.
David did some really cool stuff and he did some stuff that seems pretty sinful. But he was God’s and God was his. David had a purpose that God had planned and that was that. For everyone else, David was an afterthought, but to God, he was the only thought.
When God’s anointing oil pours over you, whatever was once un-budgeable with life’s geysers, will seamlessly fall away, as if gently being slipped off with God’s 2 fingers.
When it’s His oil, it doesn’t matter who else is standing in line or wanting to take your place. It doesn’t matter if they don’t even think to pull you in as an option. His oil won’t pour where it shouldn’t.
His anointing oil over you is meant for you and you alone. Even when you feel like your sins are “waterproof”, His love and oil conquers all. And what was once in-budge-able, will seamlessly get washed away.
If you’re feeling looked over, beat down, taken advantage of, forgotten about out in the “field” working to the bone, God did not forget about you and He will now let your purpose go to another. Even if everyone else forgets to even pull you into the “line-up”. When it’s time, God will say, “this is the one”.
